Now that the school year has ended or maybe slowed down for most of you, I hope you have a chance to get some relaxation and personal renewal. Summer is a great regroup time for most of us to reevaluate what worked and didn’t and to plan for the future. Summer is also a great time to get some inspiration and training whether it is attending a conference or reading a book. Don’t forget that you can start counting your training for the next school year in July.

IDOE is hosting a Back to School full day workshop on July 25, 2019. They will have a great keynote speaker and breakouts sessions. In addition, you can go the day before to take a farm tour and have dinner. ISNA doesn’t rest over the summer, either. We carry on with the Leadership Academy and Certificate Classes. If you didn’t have a chance to sign up for yourself or a manager, put it on your calendar now for next year.

The ISNA/IDOE School Nutrition Certificate Program is up and running. The March and April classes had great attendance, and June will also be a success. This program is designed to give the students a broad education in school nutrition management. The classes are designed for the new directors as well as the seasoned professionals. Classes occur year-round, and you can start the program at any time. Check the ISNA website for class listings, schedule, and more information. This program is a great investment in your future!

ISNA is continuing to look ahead for new ways to reach out to all of our members. We have increased committee sizes in the areas of Legislation and Public Relations to ensure we hear what you are saying and to further open that two way street between the Indiana school foodservice professionals and our legislators. Please take a look at our Facebook group to see what is new. The ISNA board is here to serve the members, so please reach out to us with your stories, questions, and ideas.

Last but not least, as you are relaxing at the beach or wherever, take a moment to think about your next professional leap. ISNA is looking for energized people who are ready to take the plunge into helping their profession grow through ISNA. We are a member driven organization, so you elect the officers to your board. Please make sure to vote in the election; and if you are ready to dip even just a toe in the water, check out the committee opportunities. Can’t commit to long term? We are always looking for one day volunteers for the annual conference.

Happy Summer, and I look forward to seeing you all at French Lick in November.
